MIXED MEDIA

THE START: My art journey began in 2014 when I started experimenting with mixed media art. My artist sister, Carolyn Saxby, encouraged me all the way. I experimented with collage, printing, dyeing fabrics, acrylic paints, acrylic mediums, watercolours, pastels and oil pastels, erosion bundles and more. When it came to trying watercolours, it was instant love and I would eventually go on to pursue watercolour exclusively as my art medium of choice. But, at the time, I still persevered with my mixed media experiments and began to fill sketchbooks with my creations.

Here is just a very small selection of my early mixed media experiments. Click/tap on an image to view it better in the carousel:

I also went on to do two mixed media art projects with Carolyn – The Surface Treatment Workshop and The Collage Project. Something else Carolyn taught me was how to do an Erosion Bundle. Please use the buttons below to find out more about these projects:

I enjoyed all my explorations into the world of mixed media art. I have numerous sketchbooks filled with my work; I love to get them out every now and then and look back at what I created. I’m very glad I did it and I learnt a lot from it. I wouldn’t change any of it. But at the end of it all I knew that, where art is concerned, my heart lies with watercolour. It’s stunningly beautiful and does the most amazing things that other mediums don’t. It is a challenging medium, but so worth the challenge. And, slowly but surely, I am learning and improving…
