PHOTOGRAPHY

I have been a digital photography enthusiast for well over 20 years. Although my creative focus is now watercolour painting, I still love photography. I’ve accumulated thousands of photos over the years and they cover a broad range of subjects. I’ve found there’s a very strong connection between what I love to photograph and what I love to paint in watercolour. Via this page, I’m sharing some of my photography work that now serves as watercolour inspiration for me. Click on an image to view them more closely in the carousel.

STILL LIFE

I find all of the above photos inspirational in different ways. The inspiration may come from the colours, textures, the place, subject matter, sharp details contrasted with soft blurry backgrounds or a combination of these things. When painting from my photos, my aim is create watercolour interpretations of them, not exact representations of them.

You may notice some of the images in the Still Life section above have creative effects added to them. Creative photography, photos that have special effects added to them by means of texture “overlays”, has always been a major part of my photography work.
